Birds; friend or enemy

Understanding how birds cause damage:

  • Birds want food,
  • after which they produce droppings.
  • They also make sounds
  • and their presence alone can be harmful.

Various areas of activity confronted with damage caused by birds are outlined below:

Food:

  • the agricultural sector; growers and gardeners with damage to crops

  • the leisure sector; laying out sport and recreation areas
  • the food industry; hygiene and nibbled-at food
  • the waste processing industry; stray waste, hygiene
  • the agricultural sector; protection of field birds/during the breeding season

Droppings:

  • (monumental) business premises/land

  • greenhouses
  • (swimming) water and boats
  • the food industry (for example HACCP)

Proximity of birds:Birds can cause sound nuisance and pollution of the environment, especially during the breeding season.The proximity of birds is a year-round hazard for air traffic (airports).
